Reunion is an event that happens every year on the first full weekend in September (the Friday must be in September). It was established to mark the occasion of the first Wood Badge course in 1919, enabling Wood Badge holders from across the world to come together as the 1st Gilwell Park Scout Group.
The event is now in its 88th year and has run since 1921 every year (except for four years during the Second World War) and is a gathering of around 2,000 adults within Scouting. URCGSF joins in with CIGS (Christians in Guiding and Scouting) in the swan centre where we share Activity ideas around a theme. This years was the commonwealth. There was a hive of activity most of the day despite the rain. Roll on 2015 for the 89th Reunion!
On a warm July morning, we gathered at Gilwell park for Gilwell 24, this event is held for explorer and senior section scouts over 5,000 we in attendance this year, and the sea of orange t-shirts was impressive. The URCGSF was the only faith active support unit represented at Gilwell 24. We set up in the marquee on the training ground where we had several craft activities to do including making poppies, decorating tiles, Quilling and also the paper bag game. There was a steady flow of young people throughout the day and most we happy to cool off in the marquee and take a step back from the hustle bustle of activity outside. Thanks to all who helped it make a fantastic day.
Whilst at the Visions Ahead weekend four of our members received awards for service to scouting and the committee.
